Irish Soda Bread

Irish Soda Bread is a moist and dense quick bread, that requires no rising!

What You’ll Need:


4 1/2 Cups Flour 

1 Tablespoon Sugar

1 Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

1 3/4 Cup Buttermilk

4 Tablespoons Butter (softened)

1 Egg

1 Cup Raisins 


The How To:

 

    1. Preheat the oven to 425°

     

    1. In a medium bowl whisk together the buttermilk and egg, set aside.

     

    1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.

     

    1. Cut the butter into the flour mix either using a fork or your fingers. Continue until the butter is pea sized. Stir in the raisins.

      

    1. In the center of your mix, add in the buttermilk mix, mix until the dough is too stiff to stir. 

     

    1. Pour the dough onto your lightly floured work surface, knead the dough into a round loaf.

     

    1. Transfer the dough into a lightly greased cast iron pan or baking sheet, score the top of the dough with an X.

     

    1. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the top is golden and the bottom sounds hollow.
